INTRODUCTION NANGGROE ACEH DARUSSALAM Geographically, Aceh has been blessed with potentials in terms of geographical attraction. Nevertheless, this potential has not been developed. Therefore, in terms of tourist dimension, the area remains open for further development. Unfortunately, the current security situation in Aceh has prevented further development of the potentials of the region, be it in economic, social and cultural aspects. The problems in Aceh are obviously complex, covering a broad range of interrelated issues. Therefore, its solution requires a comprehensive solution to address every aspect of the problems as intended by the Presidential Instruction No. 7/2001. While outlining a strategy for restoring law, order and security, the instruction also emphasizes the need for the government to continue dialogue, particularly through the reconvening of all-inclusive dialog among all elements of Acehnese, including Aceh Liberation Movement/ Gerakan Aceh Merdeka (GAM). In line with the dynamic of Indonesia's domestic politics, the promulgation of Law no. 18/2001 on 9 August 2001 presents a major departure towards transferring more authority to the regional administration. This would eventually give a significant opportunity for the people to have a bigger say in accordance with their culture, historical background and uniqueness. |
