ONE of the house of representative (DPR) of indonesia
visit TO australia, 7-12 AUGUST 2005
Upon
the invitation of the Government of Australia,
the Commission One of the House of
Representatives (DPR) visits Australia on 7-12
August 2005. The delegation is led by Chairman
Theo Sambuaga (Golkar) who is accompanied by
Sidharto Danusubroto (PDIP), Boy M.W. Saul (PD),
Hajriyanto Thohari (Golkar), Imam Nahrawi (PKB),
Dr Muhammad A.S. Hikam (PKB), Muhammad Yus
(PPP), Sembiring Meliala (PDIP), Tristanti
Mitayani (PAN) dan Untung Wahono (PKS).
During
the visit, they have met their counterparts in
an effort to strengthen further the
people-to-people link, in accordance with the
spirit of bilateral partnership between
Indonesia and Australia recently solidified by
the visit of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono
in April 2005.
During
its visit in Canberra on 7-9 August 2005, the
Delegation has met:

Hon Alexander Downer MP, Foreign Minister of
Australia;

Senator
the Hon Robert Hill, Minister for Defence
and Leader of the Government in the
Senate,
-
Secretary
of Defence, Commander of the Defence Force
and its Service Chiefs;
-
The
Hon David Hawker MP, Speaker of the House of
Representatives;
-
The
Hon Bruce Billson MP, Parliamentary
Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade
and Parliamentary Secretary for
Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous
Affairs;
-
Senator
Alan Ferguson, Chair of the Joint Standing
Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and
Trade, and its members;
-
Senator
Alan Eggleston, Chairman of the Australia
Indonesia Parliamentary Group,
-
Mr
Kevin Rudd MP, Shadow Minister for Foreign
Affairs and International Security;
-
Officials
from the Department of Foreign Affairs and
Trade, Department of the Prime Minister and
Cabinet; and AusAID;
During
those meetings, the Delegation have discussed
various issues of common interests between both
countries, such as combating international
terrorism including transnational crimes;
maritime security and the handling of
Indonesian fishermen entering Australia, defence
policy and defence cooperation between Indonesia
and Australia, and bilateral development program
within the framework of the Australia-Indonesia
Partnership for Reconstruction and Development
(AIRPD).
