ASIAN-AFRICAN SUMMIT AND ITS RELATED MEETINGS 2005
Jakarta, 22-23 April 2005

1. The Governments of the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of South Africa will co-host the Asian-African Summit 2005 to be convened in the Jakarta Hilton Convention Center on 22-23 April 2005. The theme of the Summit is "Reinvigorating the Bandung Spirit: Working towards a New Asian-African Strategic Partnership".
2. The Summit will be co-chaired by H.E. Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the President of the Republic of Indonesia and H.E. Mr. Thabo Mbeki, the President of the Republic of South Africa. H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan, the Secretary General of the United Nation,s, will be present at the Summit and deliver his remarks.
3. The Summit will be attended by Heads of State/Government from Asian-African countries, Executive Directors/Secretaries-General from Sub Regional Organizations in Asia and Africa, and observers consisting of representatives from Governments of non Asian-African countries, relevant international organizations, multilateral and regional institutions as well as key donor countries. 4. Prior to the Summit, a series of meeting will be held namely, the Asian-African Consultative Senior Officials' Meeting (AA SOM) on 19 April 2005 and the AsianAfrican Ministerial Meeting (AA MM) on 20 April 2005. Both meetings will also take place in the Jakarta Hilton Convention Center.
5. The Ministerial Meeting, which will be Co-Chaired by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Africa, will discuss and identify ways and means to foster greater Asian-African cooperation.
6. During the Summit, Leaders from Asian and African countries will launch the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership as a testimony to the strong commitment of Asian-African nations in working together toward a better future. This will mark the rise of newer and closer cooperation among the countries of the two continents.
7. Subsequent to the Asian-African Summit 2005, the Commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of the 1955 Asian-African Conference will be held on 24 April 2005 in Bandung, the historical city in which the 1955 Asian-African Conference took place. The President of the Republic of Indonesia will address the opening of the Commemoration. On the series of events for the Golden Jubilee Commemoration, all Heads of State/Government from Asia and Africa will conduct a historical walk and be invited to plant a tree in the "Asia-Africa Forest", symbolizing the two continents' close cooperation.
8. In conjunction with the Commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of the 1955 Asian-African Conference, Indonesia will also hold several events and meetings. They include the Asian-African Business Summit, the Symposium on Renewable Energy of Asia and Africa, the Workshop on the Role of Women and Youth in furthering Asian-African cooperation, and a Trade Fair.
