The Government of Indonesia is saddened by news of the death of some 84 individuals following a demonstration at Narathiwat Province, Thailand, on 25 October 2004, which turned violent.

The Government of Indonesia is concerned by the escalating tension in Southern Thailand. In this connection, Indonesia is confident that the Government of Thailand would conduct an appropriate inquiry to shed light about the tragic incident.

As a fellow member of ASEAN, it is Indonesia's hope that conditions of normalcy could be restored in the affected areas in southern Thailand in a manner consistent with Thailand's commitment to promote peace, tolerance, and social justice.
