In order to monitor the general elections to elect members of legislative assemblies at the national, provincial and regional levels which will be held on 5th April 2004, Australia will send its electoral observers to Indonesia's provinces of West Java, Central Java, East Java, Lampung, South Sulawesi, East Kalimantan, Bali, and East Nusa Tenggara.

Accredited by the Indonesian Electoral Commission on 15th March 2004, the Australian electoral observers consist of eight members, namely: Senator David Johnston, Senator Ruth Webber, Senator Natasha Stott Despoja, Mrs. Margaret May MP, Mr. Sean Gilliland, Mr. Robert Hunter, Mr. Warwick Stevens and Mr. Peter Basset.
