Chief
District Prosecutor of Stockholm, Sweden, Tomas Lindstrand,
on 16 February 2004, completed his review of legal evidence
submitted by the government of the Republic of Indonesia pertaining
to the alleged link between the leaders of the Aceh Separatist
Movement (GAM) in Sweden and the armed rebels, terrorists
and other criminals in Aceh, Indonesia.
In
handing down his judgment, Chief District Prosecutor Lindstrand
said that he had found reason to assume that indictable crimes
have been committed, and decided, accordingly, that a preliminary
investigation shall be initiated concerning the following
acts committed in Indonesia:
- Devastation endangering
the public, gross crime and murder on 13 September 2000
- Devastation endangering
the public, gross crime on 23 September 2001
- Devastation endangering
the public, gross crime on 1 July 2002
- Murder of Teuku Nazharuddin
Daud on 25 February 2000
- Murder of Professor Dayan
Daud, date at present not known
- Arson referring to at
least six schools in Nagan Raya and Kuala, dates at present
not known
- Kidnapping 243 people
from December 2003 - February 2004
The
decision taken by the Chief District Prosecutor is based on
the fact that indictable crimes had been perpetrated and reported,
and the evidence has warranted an investigation.
The
decision of the Chief District Prosecutor of Stockholm demonstrates
the seriousness of the Chief District Prosecutor's office in
responding to this case, which is the first of its kind in Sweden.
