ACEH PROVINCE WATERS CLOSED TO FOREIGN SHIPS AND VESSELS


1.         In the efforts to ensure security and order within the waters of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province, the military authority of NAD has issued a prohibition on all foreign ships and vessels entering or engaging in activities in the waters of the province as of 30 May 2003.

2.         The foreign ships and vessels mentioned above refer to all ships and vessels being used as sea transportation, carried out on/under the waters, floating or submerged, and moving under power or supported by any other means. The prohibition refers to the ships/vessels that are not operated and owned by Indonesian companies or Indonesian citizens under the Indonesian law.

3.         The NAD waters refers to internal waters and territorial waters of Indonesia lying within the territory of the NAD province (12 nautical miles from the outermost points of the NAD province, in accordance with the Indonesian Law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea/UNCLOS 1982).

4.         The NAD waters is temporarily closed off.

5.         Foreign ships and vessels under foreign flags, including those with prior permits from the relevant authorities, are prohibited to catch fish and conduct any other activities within the waters as defined in the para 3.

6.         For those who violate this regulation, will face firm action from the authorities through:

1.     Warning by radio, light, flags and sound.
2.     Expelling the ships/vessels from the NAD waters.
3.     Sinking the ships/vessels by firing with cannon or other weapons and/or explosive
        materials if the two above-mentioned actions are not met.
