The Indonesian Embassy in Canberra received information from credible sources that the Government of Vanuatu inaugurated the opening of the Papuan People's Office in Port Vila, Vanuatu on 22 March 2003.

        The Indonesian Embassy in Canberra has despatched a diplomatic note to the government of Vanuatu to ascertain its position on the matter.

        The Indonesian Embassy in Canberra has accordingly reported this alarming development to Jakarta. As soon as this information is ascertained, the Indonesian government will contemplate upon any corresponding measures available to it to deal with the matter. This includes reviewing the current status and level of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
