The
Indonesian Minister of Manpower and Transmigration, Jacob Nuwa
Wea, accompanied by senior officials from the Department of
Manpower and Transmigration and businessmen are visiting several
cities in Australia, namely Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane from
18 - 21 November 2002.
While
in Canberra, Minister Nuwa Wea paid a visit to the Minister
of Family and Community Services, Ms. Amanda Vanstone, and senior
officials from the Department of Employment and Small Business.
Minister Nuwa Wea, on behalf of the Indonesian Government, signed
a Memorandum of Understanding on The Development of Worker's
Social Security System in Indonesia with Minister Vanstone on
behalf of the Government of Australia on 19 November 2002 in
Canberra, which covers cooperation on the development of worker's
social security system and its implementation, development of
worker's social security participatory, development on information
technology in the field of worker's social security system,
and development of labour inspector capability building.
The
Minister met the Indonesian community in Canberra at a gathering
in the Indonesian Embassy on Monday, 18 November 2002, in which
he called on Indonesians living in Australia to keep a good
image of Indonesia as a nation and a country. He also stated
that the Indonesian Government through his Department will provide
funds for the repatriation of the Indonesian workers who have
uncertain legal status particularly those residing in Australia
and South Korea. Should they intend to return to Indonesia,
they are required to report to the Indonesian Representatives
in the respective countries by the end of this year.
In
Sydney, Minister Nuwa Wea will meet with the officials of the
New South Wales Workcover, the Australian Prudential Regulation
Authority (APRA) and visit Centerlink Customer Services. While
in Brisbane, a cattle feedlot, farm and a meat packing factory
would be his final destination in Australia.
