The Indonesian Embassy in Canberra held an interfaith memorial
service on Sunday, 20 October 2002 at 11.00 - 12.00 to honor
and pray for the victims of Bali Bombing whose lives have been
brutally cut short by terrorists. Different religious leaders
from Islam, Catholic, Protestant, and Hindu offered the worship
during which hundreds of Indonesians as well as Australians
living in Canberra were in attendance. They were united in praying
and sharing their feelings of sorrow.
The Charge
d'Affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra Mr. Imron Cotan,
said that this gathering clearly underlined the fact that followers
of all religions can indeed be united to confront the forces
of evil that have always tried to manipulate religious teachings
to inflict damage upon human beings and their living environment.
He further called on all participants to continue to set an
example by enlightening their family members, friends, and neighbors
not to be easily provoked by those wanting to pit them against
another.
Only with
solidarity and understanding can we pass through this difficult
moment. And, only through our determination and resolve can
we confront the forces of evil as to allow us to live in peace
and harmony.
The Charge
d'Affaires of the Indonesian Embassy has once again used the
opportunity to offer his deepest sympathy as well as heartfelt
condolences to the Australian government and its people on this
day of national mourning.
