The Foreign
Ministers of Indonesia and Australia today announced that the
two countries will co-host a conference on combating money laundering
and terrorist financing, to be held in Bali on 12 and 13 December
2002. The conference will be opened by both ministers and will
be bring together officials from countries around the Asia-Pacific
Rim.
The conference
will augment and contribute to existing initiatives being undertaken
by the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee and organisations such
as the Asia-Pacific Group on Money Laundering. Indonesia and
Australia believe that the meeting will enable countries in
our region to strengthen further their individual efforts to
prevent and counter money laundering and the financing of terrorism,
particularlly by identifying capacity building needs to meet
existing and new obligations.
The co-hosting
of the conference highlights the continuing commitments of Australia
and Indonesia to combat terrorist financing and money laundering
in the region.
