Bali International Airport Meets
International Security Standards
Jakarta – The United States
government announced today that Bali’s Ngurah
Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Indonesia
meets international aviation security standards.
This decision is based on Transportation
Security Administration (TSA) assessments that
concluded that security measures at the airport
comply with International Civil Aviation
Organization (ICAO) standards.
The Embassy applauds airport
authorities for their efforts to improve and
update Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport
security procedures over the past two years. "I
was very happy that we could inform Minister of
Transportation Jusman that our government
recognizes that Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport meets
international security standards," said Chargé
d’Affaires John Heffern. "This is very good news
for Indonesia as it prepares to host the United
Nations COP-13 Climate Change Conference in Bali
this December."
The Department of Homeland
Security is removing public notification
requirements imposed on December 23, 2005. DHS
has instructed all U.S. airports to remove signs
posted regarding Ngurah Rai International
Airport and directed air carriers issuing
tickets for travel from the U.S. to Ngurah Rai
International Airport that notification to
ticket purchasers is no longer necessary.
U.S. law requires the
Department of Homeland Security to conduct
security assessments at foreign airports with
direct service to the United States, including a
determination if security meets international
standards. For more information on the U.S.
aviation and airport security standards, please
