The
Embassy takes note of comments about the current condition
in Papua by politicians, religious leaders, activists and
in the Australian media and welcomes such statements as
long as they are factual and are supported by clear
evidence. These serious accusations are being
investigated, however, preliminary report indicates
that the statements are completely baseless.
The
Embassy deeply regrets the attempts by some parties to
politicize the criminal acts of a few. The killings of the
five security officers two weeks ago in Papua are
considered criminal acts and have nothing whatsoever to do
with the political situation in Papua. Efforts to
apprehend those responsible are being done in a just and
lawful manner and strictly in accordance with the rules of
non-violence and non-confrontation.
The
Embassy also noted with deep regret that the above
mentioned parties have failed to acknowledge the suffering
endured by the families of the five deceased security
officers while serving in the line of duty.
The
government is very keen to closely monitor and take stern
action against any violations in the effort to restore law
and order.
