She had no right to be in Aceh

Damien Kingsbury and Senator Bob Brown's letters (The Age 25/9) that tried frantically to convince us that Lesley McCulloch is innocent, are grossly misleading.

First, any organisations, including CSIS - a private think tank in Jakarta - cannot and shall not speak on behalf of the Indonesian Government, the sole authority that may or may not grant access to visiting foreigners.

Second, even if the claim were true that McCulloch's request for a research visa was turned down, she should not have forced her way and abused her tourist visa to do research in Aceh.

I am also perplexed by Senator Brown's call for the Australian Government to "be more active" in trying to free McCulloch when he knows for certain that she is not an Australian.
