PRESIDENT CALLS FOR DIALOGUE TO END
RELIGIOUS VIOLENCE
President
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono issued an appeal for more dialogue to tackle
religious violence on Tuesday (24/6) at the start of an international
inter-faith peace conference in Jakarta. Opening the conference attended
by religious and community leaders from 37 countries, President
Yudhoyono said religion was too frequently used as a rallying point by
belligerents in conflicts. "The fact is that none of the world's great
religions teach violence," Yudhoyono said.
CANBERRA CONFIRMS NEW FIVE YEAR DEVELOPMENT
PARTNERSHIP WITH RI
Jakarta - The Australian Government on Friday (13/6) confirmed a
strengthened five year development partnership with Indonesia to help
tackle poverty and promote regional peace, stability and prosperity,
Australian Embassy news release has said. It said the first program to
be funded under this strengthened development partnership was a $49
million maternal and neonatal health program
AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT IN ACEH
Jakarta - As part of
Australia's new five-year development partnership with Indonesia, the
Australian Government will provide up to $50 million to assist Aceh to
build a prosperous and peaceful future after the dual impact of the
tsunami and 30 years of civil conflict left it as one of Indonesia's
poorest provinces.
RI EXPECTS TO FINALIZE NEGOTIATIONS ON FTA WITH
AUSTRALIA NEXT YEAR
Jakarta -
Indonesia hopes to complete its bilateral negotiations on a Free Trade
Agreement (FTA) with Australia in 2009 if talks on FTA at ASEAN level
(including Australia and New Zealand) are concluded this year,
Indonesian Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said. "We will wait for the
completion of talks on ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand (AANZ) free trade
this year," the Minister said on Friday (13/6).
