PRIME MINISTER JOHN HOWARD AND THE OPPOSITION LEADER MARK LATHAM
VISITED THE EMBASSY OF INDONESIA IN CANBERRA FOR CONDOLENCES

Prime Minister John Howard and the Leader of the Opposition Mark Latham accompanied by their wives visited the Embassy this afternoon (10/9/2004) for expressing their condolences and supports to the Indonesian government and its people, as well as victims of the recent bombing in Jakarta, September 9, 2004.

Both leaders reiterated their strong commitment to jointly combat terrorism. Prime Minister Howard also stated that the Australian government would donate and channel financial aid to the victims of the bombing.

In connection with the Jakarta bombing, the Embassy opens a Condolence Book at the Indonesian Embassy, 8 Darwin Avenue, ACT 2600 , on Friday, 10 September 2004 from 4 to 6 pm, and on Monday, 13 September 2004 from 10 am to noon, and from 3 pm to 5 pm.
