The Indonesian
Embassy in Canberra organised an evening talk
on the Bali tourism recovery after the tragic
bombings of 2002. The guest speaker at the talk
was Prof. DR. I Gde Pitana, the former Director
of the Bali Tourism Authority, and moderated
by Febrian Ruddyard from the Indonesian Embassy.
Professor Pitana presented his experience in
dealing with the destructive effect of the bombing
on Bali's tourism industry, which since the
19th century has been the backbone of the island's
economy. As a leading academic on cultural tourism,
Professor Pitana also discussed the changing
perception of the Balinese towards the development
of their tourism industry. The talk was attended
by the Indonesian Ambassador and many other
interested parties from all over Canberra.
