On the
evening of Thursday 22 July 2004, Tim's Restaurant
at the Italo-Australian Club in Forrest played
host to the Australian Indonesian Association's
annual Winter Dinner. The dinner was attended
by more than ninety AIA members and their invited
guests who came from all over Canberra and the
surrounding regions.
The evening began with a brief
presentation by AIA committee member and Indonesian
teacher, Pamela Davis, on AIA's Student Support
program at the Playen 2 High School in Gunung
Kidul, near Yogyakarta. Donations were sought
for this worthy cause in the form of a raffle
with a hamper going to the lucky winner.
Pamela then introduced the
guest speaker for the evening, H.E. the Ambassador
of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Imron Cotan.
The Ambassador spoke of the importance of the
relationship between Australia and Indonesia
and was happy to field questions from the audience.
As well a providing a delicious dinner, the
evening was an excellent opportunity for members
and friends of the Australian Indonesian Association
to catch up and make new acquaintances. The
conversations lasted well into the night.
