H.E. Ambassador Imron Cotan delivered his speech before the participants of The 2004 Defence and Strategic Studies Course at the Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies (CDSS), Australian Defence College, Weston Creek, on 1 July 2004.

The title of Ambassador Speech is The Indonesia's View of its Place in the World. The presentation was a part of the comprehensive course of the institution to provide officers of the Australian Defence Force, the Australian Public Service, and overseas participants with knowledge about Indonesia's latest domestic politics and its foreign policy. The participants comprise of 46 senior military and civilian officers (primarily Colonel equivalent and above), from Australia, China, Fiji, France, Indonesia, Iraq, Kuwait, Malaysia, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, the United States of America and Vietnam.

Q and A session followed Ambassador's speech were colored by enthusiastic questions from the participants. Ambassador Cotan explained his views on various issues related to Indonesia, such as: the improvements of the country's security situation, particularly in Poso, Moluccas, Aceh and Papua; the success story of its general election; economic growth; democratization process; relations between Indonesia and ASEAN; UN reforms; and the war in Iraq.
