H.E. Ambassador of the
Republic of Indonesia Imron Cotan made an official
visit to Queensland on June 20-23, 2004, with
his wife Madame Sri Nuraeni and delegation,
including Mr Febrian Ruddyard (First Secretary
Economics), Mr Wahdi S. A. Yudhi (Culture and
Education Attaché), Mr Sutriono Edi (Trade
and Industry Attaché), Mr Greg Vickery
AM (Honorary Consul, Consulate of the Republic
of Indonesia, Brisbane) and Mr Saud Krisnawan
(Vice-Consul, Consulate-General of the Republic
of Indonesia, Sydney).
H.E. Imron Cotan's programme
was a busy one, making a number of visits to
various Departments and Institutions in Queensland.
He met with the Chief Justice of Queensland,
The Hon Paul de Jersey AC; Governor of Queensland,
Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce; Lord Mayor
of Brisbane, Councillor Campbell Newman; and
the Premier of Queensland, The Hon Peter Beattie
MP.
He also called upon various
tertiary institutions such as Queensland University
of Technology, University of Queensland, Griffith
University and the Department of Education.
Other official visits were to various government
departments such as the Department of the Premier
and Cabinet- Trade Division; Natural Resources,
Mines and Energy; Minister for Primary Industries
and Fisheries; International Collaborations;
Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Opposition;
and Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier.
In addition to those calls,
H.E. Imron Cotan also met with Mr David Costello
from Foreign Editor, The Courier-Mail Newspaper
and attended an Indonesian Student Address whereby
an address to Indonesian representatives was
followed by a question and answer opportunity.
During the visits, the Ambassador
and his delegation held discussions and exchange
of views on a wide range of issues regarding
developments in both Indonesia and Queensland,
as well as efforts to improve ties between the
two. The Ambassadors visit also aimed to strengthen
the relationships between the sister cities
of Semarang and Brisbane, and Central Java and
Queensland.
The official visit to
Queensland gave H.E Imron Cotan and his delegation,
the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into
the workings of various departments and institutions,
as well as establish relationships of cooperation
with them. The visit also paved the way for
better understanding and collaboration between
Indonesia and Queensland.
