The Indonesian Embassy in Canberra and the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) have launched the Australian Fumigation Accreditation Scheme (AFAS) for Indonesia on Tuesday, 15 June 2004. The launch was conducted by Mr. Y. Kristiarto S. Legowo, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Indonesian Embassy, representing HE. Mr. Imron Cotan, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia for Australia; and Mr. Andy Carroll, National Manager of Cargo Management of the AQIS, at Balai Kartini, Indonesian Embassy. On the same day, a parallel launch was also carried out jointly in Jakarta by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia and the Australian Embassy. Officials from the AQIS and the Indonesian Embassy, as well as representatives from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and Peter Meadow Consulting also attended the event.

The AFAS program is designed to improve the quality, safety and reliability of Methyl Bromide fumigation.
