On
1-2 June 2004, HE Ambassador Imron Cotan paid
a Courtesy Call to the Governor of New South
Wales Professor Marie Bashir, and the Primer
of New South Wales, The Hon Bob Carr.
In
addition to those calls, H.E Imron Cotan has
also met with Ms. Reba Meagher MP, Minister
for Fair Trading, Professor Gavin Brown, Vice
Chancellor of the University of Sydney, The
Hon John Aquillina MP, Speaker of the NSW Parliament,
and Mr. Russel Balding, John Doherty and Geoffrey
Crawford from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation,
The Chief Justice of NSW The Hon James Spiegelmann,
The General manager State Chamber of Commerce
Mr. Richard Schewpps, The Shadow Minister for
Citizenship, Representing the Leader of the
Opposition Mr. Adrian Picolli MP, and The President
of the Legislative Council The Hon. Dr. Meredith
Burgmann MLC.
The
purpose of the visit was to maintain, strengthen,
and increase understanding, relationships, and
cooperation between Indonesia and NSW.
During
the visits, the Ambassador and his counter-parts
had discussion and exchange of views on a broad
range of issues on the recent development both
in Indonesia and Australia particularly in NSW.
It was also aimed at exploring the possibilities
for Indonesia to send nurses, paramedics, and
train-drivers in order to fulfill the labor-gap
in NSW. In the area of economic cooperation,
the Ambassador also discussed about the exchanges
of crossed-trainees within the companies of
both parties, and expressed concern on the recent
decline of the trade volume between the two
parties. Therefore, the both parties need to
seek solutions for the cause of the decline.
