On Saturday of 8 November
2003, the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra held a movie
screening and a "lesehan" discussion at the
Ambassador's residence in commemoration of the 75th Indonesian
Youth Pledge Day and of Indonesian Heroes Day 2003, which
was attended by many of the members of the Indonesian
community in Canberra and 'friends of Indonesia'.
The title of the movie was 'November 1928'
and was directed by the famous film director Mr. Teguh
Karya. The movie took the setting of the Indonesian people's
struggle on Java island against the Dutch colonial oppression
during the Prince Diponegoro's war (1825 to 1830).
The movie screening was followed
by a "lesehan" discussion conducted by Mr. Tony
Prasetiantono - a doctoral student at the Australian National
University (ANU) and well known as an economist in Indonesia,
and Mr. Yudi Latif - a doctoral student at the ANU as
well as political observer, as speaker. The "lesehan"
discussion talked about what could be learned from the
movie, in particular how the hero's values reflected the
reasons for the people's struggles and how they encouraged
the fighting spirit of the Indonesian young generation
to develop the country.
Below are some pictures taken from the event.
