The
Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political and Security
Affairs, H.E. (Rtd) Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono accompanied
by Madam Yudhoyono, visited Australia on 9 and 10 October
2003.
The first day of Mr. Yudhoyono's visit
was in Canberra, where he was one of the speakers at the
2003 Triennial International Seminar held by Royal United
Services Institute. In the seminar with the theme "Global
Security in the New Millennium", Mr. Yudhoyono stressed
the importance of: promoting security through cooperation;
developing a stable, peaceful and prosperous region; and
developing a sustainable global coalition in the war against
terrorism.
After delivering his speech, Mr. Yudhoyono
continued his program for that day to meet with the Australia
Prime Minister John Howard, Foreign Minister Alexander
Downer, Defence Minister Robert Hill, and Immigration
Minister Amanda Vanstone.
Later on 10 October, Mr. Yudhoyono met
with Attorney General Phillip Ruddock and gave a briefing
to the Indonesian Embassy's staff in Canberra at the Ambassador's
residence, in which he handed over his book Towards A
Sustainable Global Coalition Against Terrorism: The Indonesian
View to the Charge d'Affaires Ad Interim, Mrs. Trini Sualang.
In the afternoon, Mr. Yudhoyono delivered
a speech to AsiaLink audience at Sydney Myer Asia Centre,
Melbourne University, which then followed by a dinner
tendered by the Asia Society AustralAsia Centre.
