THE COMMEMORATION OF
THE INDONESIAN NATIONAL SPORTS DAY
9 SEPTEMBER 2003

On Tuesday, 9 September 2003, the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra held a series of activities to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the Indonesian National Sports Day, at the Ambassador's residence. The event was attended by around 50 people, which consisted of: members of the Indonesian community in Canberra; the Indonesian students; the Embassy's staff, and members of 'Dharma Wanita Persatuan'.

The activities of that day were begun with the delivery of a speech of The Indonesian Minister of National Education, by the Charge d'Affaires Ad Interim of the Embassy, Mrs. Trini G. Sualang. As read by Mrs. Sualang, the Indonesian Minister of National Education pointed out about the importance of enhancing the quality of sports activities in Indonesia. As an integral part of the national development process, sport has an important role to develop health, physical fitness, and discipline of the Indonesian people.

 

The commemoration was also marked by the carrying out of mass physical fitness activities, so-called 'Senam Kesegaran Jasmani '88' and 'Poco-poco', which were enthusiastically participated in by all of the attendees.
