In commemoration of the
58th Anniversary of Indonesia's Independence, the Indonesian
Embassy in Canberra on Sunday, 17 August 2003 at 10 a.m.
sharp, held a flag raising ceremony, which took place
at the yard of the Ambassador's residence. The ceremony
was attended by around 300 people, which consisted of:
members of the Indonesian community in Canberra; the Indonesian
students; students of the Australian Defence Force Academy
(ADFA) and Australian Defence Force (ADF) School of Language;
teachers and students who were the winners of the Indonesian
Independence Day Awards from Victoria; members of 'Dharma
Wanita Persatuan; and all of the Embassy's staff.
At the ceremony, the Charge d'Affaires
Ad Interim of the Embassy, Mr. Imron Cotan, delivered
a speech containing in substance inter alia:
the outlook of Indonesia's economy for the ensuing year;
the achievements of President Megawati's government; the
contribution of the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra in
promoting cooperation between Indonesia and Australia
in the interest of the national development; and, lastly,
to call out to all members of Indonesian community in
Canberra to enhance the unity and integrity of the nation.
As part of the ceremony, Mr. Cotan also
pinned a medal and presented an award to the home staff
and the local staff of the Embassy for their dedication
and loyalty. A medal namely 'Satya Lencana Karya Satya
20 Tahun' was pinned to Mrs. Trini Gunarti Sualang, the
Head of Information Section. And the award for the local
staff was bestowed to Mrs. Nana Yohana Hatar, who has
dedicated herself for 15 years to the Embassy.
