From
the 15th to the 17th of August, the Embassy of the Republic
of Indonesia was proud to host the winners of the Indonesian
Independence Day Awards from Victoria. The three students
and teacher, accompanied by the President of the Victorian
Indonesian Language Training Association (VILTA) were
welcomed into the homes of the Charge d'Affaires, Education
& Cultural Attaché and Staff from the Information
Section. While in Canberra, the visitors were treated
to an Indonesian lunch, a visit to the National Gallery
of Australia's Sari to Sarong exhibition, attended the
flag raising for Indonesian Independence Day, met with
the Canberra Indonesian Teachers Association and watched
a traditional Indonesian film.
The visitors were also given the opportunity
to experience Indonesian culture, with a guided tour of
the Balai Budaya cultural centre and workshops on traditional
Indonesian dance, gamelan (music), wayang (shadow puppets)
and silat (martial arts).
Finally the Charge d'Affaires, Mr Imron
Cotan presented each recipient with an award, in recognition
of their contribution to the study of Indonesian language
and culture.
It was indeed a pleasure to be able
to share the commemoration of Indonesia's Independence
with these wonderful people.
