SPORT, KARAOKE AND POCO-POCO COMPETITIONS
IN CELEBRATION OF THE 58TH ANNIVERSARY
OF INDONESIA'S INDEPENDENCE
26 JULY - 16 AUGUST 2003

To commemorate and celebrate the 58th Anniversary of Indonesia's Independence, the Indonesian Students' Association in Australia (so-called PPIA), Canberra Branch - subsection Australian National University (ANU), in cooperation with the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, organized a series of competitions in sport, karaoke, and 'poco-poco' from 26 July until 16 August 2003 - every Saturday and Sunday.

The competitions were launched by a 'gaple' match and followed by other kinds of competition i.e. tennis, volleyball, indoor soccer, table tennis, karaoke, 'poco-poco', badminton, and chess.

About two hundred people consisting of the Indonesian community in Canberra and 'friends of Indonesia' have excitedly enjoyed and participated in the contests that took place at both the ANU Sport Center and the Indonesian Embassy. The competitions were successfully concluded on 16 August by a chess match.

The prizes were handed over to all the winners of the competitions at 'Indonesian Night 2003' organized by 'PPIA' Canberra branch - subsection University of Canberra, on 29 August 2003.
