The Indonesian Embassy
in Canberra on Saturday, 26 July 2003 held a series of
activities to commemorate and celebrate the 9th anniversary
of Indonesia's National Children's Day, which was held
at the Ambassador's residence. The event was attended
by around 200 people consisting of members of the Indonesian
community in Canberra, children, students, and Embassy
staff.
The whole series of activities on that
day was preceded by an official ceremony led by Mrs. Trini
Sualang, Head of Information Section of the Embassy. The
ceremony was different from other official ceremonies
in that it put forward Indonesian children in Canberra
as the ceremony officials. The participation of the children
in this way was aimed at developing their feeling of love
for Indonesia's unity and integrity.
In line with the theme of Children's Day
for this year "Saya Anak Indonesia: Dengarlah Suara
Kami Sebagai Penerus Masa Depan Bangsa" (I'm Children
of Indonesia: Please Listen to Our Voice as the Nation's
Next Generation), Mrs. Sualang emphasized in her speech
of the importance of giving special attention to Indonesian
children as the next generation, and motivating the development
of their ability, personality and intelligence, in order
to support their character building.
The official ceremony was followed by
various children's games, which were organized by the
Indonesian Students' Association in Australia (so-called
PPIA), branch Canberra, and fully supported by the Embassy.
Many children enthusiastically participated in the games,
which consisted of musical chairs, trivia quiz (so-called
'cerdas cermat'), sack race (so-called 'balap karung'),
putting a pencil into a bottle, and moving oranges (so-called
memindahkan jeruk).
The fun day concluded with a presentation
of gifts to the winners of various events.
