THE OPENING
OF AN ART EXHIBITION:
'CROSSING BOUNDARIES, BALI: A WINDOW TO TWENTIETH CENTURY ART'
ORANGE (NSW), 20 JUNE 2003

On Friday, 20 June 2003, Charge d'Affaires Ad Interim of the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, Mr Imron Cotan, opened an Indonesian Art Exhibition themed 'Crossing Boundaries, Bali: A Window to Twentieth Century Art', in Orange, New South Wales, which was organized by the Asia Society AustralAsia Centre.

On this occasion, Mr Cotan emphasized inter alia that the Exhibition of these Balinese fine arts augured well with the intention of the Indonesian government and its people to heal the wounds inflicted by the Bali bombing last October. It was also hoped that the Exhibition would further strengthen the cross-cultural dialogue and the relationship between the Indonesian and Australian people.

Around 150 visitors from the local community attended the event, who enthusiastically enjoyed the Indonesian paintings being exhibited and also the performance of an Indonesian traditional dance.

The paintings will be exhibited in Canberra in August 2003.
