INTERNATIONAL
COMMUNITY EXPECTED TO CONTINUE SUPPORTING PEACE IN ACEH
Banda Aceh -
International community should continue supporting peace efforts in
Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province toward reintegration process.
"Both national and international supports are badly needed for peace
process in Aceh," Governor Irwandi Yusuf said in his written address,
read out by Aceh provincial administration secretary Husni Bahri TOB at
the international seminar in Banda Aceh on Monday (13/08). The
international seminar on peace in Aceh was conducted to observe the
second anniversary of Helsinki peace agreement signed by the Indonesian
Government and Free Aceh Movement (GAM) on August 15, 2005.
Irwandi Yusuf said
in his statement that the emerging peace after the signing of the
agreement should continue to be maintained and preserved. Therefore, he
noted that both national and international communities, as well as all
parties concerned, should have a high commitment to keeping and
maintaining the peace process in Aceh.
Irwandi added that
the international community had so far played its role in Aceh's
reintegration, rehabilitation, and reconstruction processes after a
deadly tsunami devastated the province and claimed hundreds of thousands
of lives on December 26, 2004.
The reintegration
process was one of the points of the Helsinki Agreement and was expected
to have positive impacts on peace development in the province, he said (Antara,
